Reactions to my coming out:
- Mum: *shocked staring*
- Dad: YOU ONLY THINK YOU'RE BISEXUAL. YOU'VE BEEN BRAINWASHED BY THE LIBERAL MEDIA. WE'RE GOING TO GET YOU TESTED FOR FURTHER BRAIN DAMAGE. YOU ARE A MUTANT FREAK.
- Sissy: So basically, you're like Captain Jack Harkness and River Song?
"The earth was warm under me, and warm as I crumbled it through my fingers. I kept as still as I could. Nothing happened. I did not expect anything to happen. I was something that lay under the sun and felt it, like the pumpkins, and I did not want to be anything more. I was entirely happy. Perhaps we feel like that when we die and become a part of something entire, whether it is sun and air, or goodness and knowledge. At any rate, that is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep. "

Poetry is vulnerability. Everyone gives pieces of themselves away in the things that they write. Being a poet means you accept that. You’re willing to share yourself.
Poetry is secrecy. Everyone hides pieces of themselves in the things that they write. Being a poet means knowing how to do that and what to hide.
Poetry is a way of life.

Poems have many things in common. When you start to write a poem, you decide on a rhyming scheme (if you have one), then you format your poem with lines and stanzas. You use different literary techniques (repetition, allusion, imagery) to explain your theme.
But what makes poetry unique? What makes it poetry rather than a bunch of words?
Poetry is a picture of the author’s soul. Your diction. Your syntax. Your theme. They are you. They are your soul. A poem is one of the most personal things in the world. A poem is a direct link to the author’s subconscious, they’re feelings and beliefs, the events in their lives, their soul.
That’s what poetry means to me.

Poetry is forgiveness. The ability to look at your life through the kind of rose-colored-glasses that illuminate what you’ve really been looking for. You can play back your memories over and over but poetry allows you to view those moments from a true transcendent state of mind. Ask poetry why you matter, and I promise you will find an answer.
